Hi CJ,

The <a href="http://sourceforge.net/projects/adumass/">Active Directory UserMod Assistant</a> source forge project you found looks really good, thanks for sharing it.

Just to wrap it all up, I ended up using Gnarwl as the vacation responder and using a couple of AD fields that we do not use. I had to use the distrubution groups for alias entries - no big deal. I also downloaded a Sourceforge project called "ADUserModAssistant_User" which I modified to update the fields that I am using for vacation, this requires delegating authority to the users - but the nice thing is that you can delegate only the ability to update specific attributes and denying all others. So in the end you have an email server that has no real user accounts and is authenticating to AD that also handles Distribution Groups and Aliases with vaction functionality that users can turn on and off.

Just a few more quick thoughts, I think the only way that Squirrelmail might work is to try adapting the existing Qmail-LDAP plugin or writing my own plugin. As I mentioned earlier Gnawrl works fairly well, but there is no easy user interface. The nice thing about the way that the Qmail-LDAP plugin works is that a single user account can be delegated authority to update attributes in AD rather than delegating authority to all users.

My bad,

I should have worded that better, what I meant to say is that since the vacation lookup is using myql and the user is using the Squirrelmail PostfixAdmin plugin there will only be one email address created in the SQL table. This means that any alias address will simply not qualify in the lookup. At any rate I am still not getting a vacation reply when sent to the alias address. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

Hi Consultant,

Thanks for the reply, I actually have had a chance to look further at the problem and it appears that the otherMailbox lookup is not returning the correct value. I have used ADSI edit to add an alias address in th otherMailbox field and when I do a postmap -v -q user@some.domain ldap:/etc/postfix/ldap-users.cf it is returning the same value for the mail field regardless of what is entered for the otherMailbox.

Hi CJ,

It was working with aliases before I messed with it up to support system accounts. I've updated the <a href="/postfix-vacation-message/">Postfix Vacation Message</a>, please check it out. Since you will be updating your configuration which is based on the old article, here are the important points to consider

1. Redownload the squirrelmail-postfixadmin plugin
2. Make sure config.php contains the line
$CONF['vacation_domain'] = 'vacation.invalid';
3. Remove the recipient_bcc_maps in /etc/postfix/main.cf

Re: Vacation

Just a couple quick thoughts on the vacation aspect, I have tried using Gnarwl and following the guide here for using PostfixAdmin and was able to get both working. The downside to Gnarwl is that there is not an easy interface that regular users can manage themselves, otherwise it works fairly well even with aliases. PostfixAdmin on the other hand is much easier to let users manage the away message using Squirrelmail, however it does not seem to work when email aliases are involved. The messages get delivered to the Maildir but are not processed by vacation when sent to a user's alias address. I may be missing something simple in terms of Postfix and this guide, it would be fantastic if PostfixAdmin-vacation worked with aliased addresses correctly.

Hi,

We have a small organization with minimum 100 users. I have done the Postfix + Dovecot + AD alias configuration with the above guide as a Internal mail server (communicate with internally, not outside or internet). I am able to send and receive mails from all the AD accounts using Postfix and Dovecot.

I am facing a problem with from mail address.
I have a below users account in AD and respective mail address in AD

Username :mailuser1
E-mail : mail-1@demo.int

Username :mailuser2
E-mail : mail-2@demo.int

when i am sending a mail from mailuser1 to mail-2@demo.com. i am getting header "from mail address mailuser1@localhost.example.int" in mailuser2 mailbox and same has vice versa.

will it possible can we use same AD e-mail address to sender ? ( I mean, when we going to send mailuser1 to mail-2@demo.int, in mailuser2 mailbox header should be "from : mail-1@demo.int)

Please help.

Thanks,
Surendra
