Hello Geniuses,

I am very new to mail server, I have some questions about the hostname.

I have a web server on CentOS 6.1 and I am trying to set up a mail server.

I use Webmin to manage my server.

1- Does a mail server need to stand alone or can I set it up together with a web server?

2- If I can set up my mail server along with my web server, do I need a second FQDN for the mail server if wanted to be used by the public or can I use the same one that I use for the web server?

I also need some references to do some reading about setting up mail server on Linux using Webmin.

Hi aroldgre,

 

1. You can combine the mail and web server

2. You can use the same or you can use a new FQDN. It's all up to you. For example, if your current FQDN is mail.acme.com, do you want to use that, or would you like http://www.acme.com
