I used this site some years ago to install my Linux webserver on CentOS 5.

But now it's time for new hardware and so I want to use CentOS 6.0

I saw a new part was already there to install it on 6, but I am confused in the part where it comes to install MailScanner. First you have to install EPEL, then download the latest package from the MailScanner website. But in the end it will be installed with using yum.

So why is it needed to download the package if you are using yum to install the rpm's?

From the site: http://www.linuxmail.info/how-…..-centos-5/

Point 4 and 5.

I also found a little issue according to rights. The rights on /var/spool/MailScanner should also be postfix:clam

Hi JeeGee,

EPEL is used to install the MailScanner dependencies, here's step 2 from the site

"2. Type in the command below (in one line) to install the required dependencies for MailScanner."

Installation of MailScanner itself is tackled in point 4 and 5.

Regarding the rights, all the folders inside /var/spool/MailScanner should be postfix:clam. Below are the relevant command lines

cd /var/spool/MailScanner/
mkdir spamassassin
chown -R postfix.clam *

Thank you for your reply. But as far i see it is that you can skip step 3 and 4 and de first line in step 5, the change directory. So only do step 2 and the command in step 5

yum install –nogpgcheck mailscanner* tnef*

Because the repo is used to install mailscanner, the tar file will never be used.

Only the MailScanner dependencies are from the repo. MailScanner and the tnef dependency will be from the tar file.

Ah ok, I am confused because I thought local files should be installed with:

"yum –nogpgcheck localinstall *.rpm"

But in the described way, it seems it takes the files in the current directory.

I used install instead of localinstall to ensure that dependencies will not be installed from the tar files. Otherwise, the mailscanner dependencies from the tar file will conflict with the standard rpm from repo.
